There’s more to studying English than you know. There’s The Albion Association, for instance! We are here to help you seize the day at the Leiden English Department.
Once upon a time, the Romans encountered the white cliffs of Dover for the first time. They named this new land Albion (albus is Latin for white).
In 1996, some students of English decided to set up a student organisation, which they called The Albion Association. They organised parties and trips to London.
In 2005 a new era began. Educated by their predecessors and inspired by Robert Herrick’s poem “To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time” (1648), a new Albion Board felt that their fellow students needed more.
Their mission was clear. Each and every student and staff member of the English department should be Albionised.
And now a few years have passed. Board members have come and gone, but the Albionising shall continue!
This year, Albion will continue to grow and entertain, and will keep on organising activities such as movie nights, weekly drinks (‘borrels’), cultural trips, trips abroad and much more.
In order to guarantee you that all these activities will become successful, Albion has several committees with lots of enthusiastic people to help us out (visit our ‘committees’ page to see who they are).
